What causes the wind on Mars?

On Mars, however, the daily temperature range near the equator can reach 100° C or 180° F. Air rises when heated by hot ground, and the motion pulls in cooler air at ground level. More generally, temperature differences between one area and another cause air to flow between them, producing winds.

How is there wind on Mars with no air?

Mars does have its own atmosphere. It’s different to earth’s, but it is there. Mars has an atmosphere which is much thinner than the atmosphere on Earth, but which still creates winds. When these winds pick up the fine, dry particles of dust on Mars, a dust storm can occur.

How do you get air on Mars?

NASA’s Perseverance rover just created a breath of fresh air on Mars. An experimental device on the rover split carbon dioxide molecules into their component parts, creating about 10 minutes’ worth of breathable oxygen. It was also enough oxygen to make tiny amounts of rocket fuel.

Can plants grow in Mars?

Fertilizing Mars Research suggests Martian soil has some of the nutrients plants need to grow and survive (see “Plants’ Nutrients,” right). But because of Mars’s extremely cold conditions, plants such as Watney’s potatoes would need to grow inside a controlled environment, such as his Hab.
