As per the new lore, the Emperor did predict the Horus Heresy. In fact, he depended upon it to happen. He didn’t know how exactly it would happen until the events of The Outcast Dead because there were many futures he foresaw and their likelihoods changed depending upon his actions.

Now I know ‘lost’ is subjective in this case since He technically won, but Horus burned His face, burst His eye, ripped His arm from His socket, and broke His spine over his knee.

How did Horus have such an upper hand against the Emperor?

So if that’s the case, how exactly did Horus have such an upper hand throughout the fight? Granted, Horus was given power similar to the Emperor’s via his deal with the Chaos Gods, but even such a power boost shouldn’t have made that big a difference.
