The answer to this is almost certainly yes: on average salaries in software engineering will go down. That’s not actually bad news though. It will happen because software engineering is going to continue to grow as a sector.

Is programming a dead end job?

Software engineering is no more a dead end career than civil engineering, chemical engineering or any other type of ENGINEERING. Coding is a dead end career. Programming is a dead end career.
