Some patients feel pressure as the brackets pop off, but there shouldn’t be any pain unless you are really sad and broken-hearted about leaving your braces behind. If you think you will miss them too much, the orthodontist can even put your braces in a plastic baggie for you to keep!

Your dentist or orthodontist will use a pair of special pliers to remove your braces. The pliers will gently take hold of each bracket and give them a little squeeze. This allows the dentist or orthodontist to separate the bracket from the tooth.

    Braces bonded directly to the teeth are removed by slightly deforming the base of the bracket. When the base of the bracket is squeezed, the bond releases and the bracket will come off. Usually, the separation occurs at the bracket-glue junction, leaving adhesive on the tooth surface.
