Is it harder to get into grad school as an international student?

Because most colleges are need-aware to international students, it’s harder to gain admission since these schools reject some students purely because those students can’t afford the cost of attendance. However, just because you can pay doesn’t mean that getting in will be as easy as it is for a domestic student.

Do universities care about class rank?

The key takeaway is that class rank, like all aspects of college admissions, is considered holistically. That means that colleges treat it as one element among many—alongside ACT/SAT test scores, extracurricular activities, Common App essays, and letters of recommendation.

In general, your undergraduate major does not need to be in the same field as what you plan to study in graduate school. It’s not uncommon for academic and career interests to change over time.

It doesn’t make much of a difference. The signaling effect comes from your most recent degree. So if you went to your local state college and then went to Columbia university for your MBA then that is what will matter.

Why are so many graduate students International?

Graduate programs admit so many international students not only because they have strong international applicants, but mainly because they do not have enough qualified domestic applicants. We must conclude the doctoral career track is simply not attractive enough to U.S. undergrad CS students.
