It is only when Finn is able to get 1 hit in on Kylo’s arm, he gets angry and within 1 second disarms Finn’s saber. Finn is a trained stormtrooper and Kylo was hurt (both emotionally and physically) but the reason why Finn was able to fight that long was only because Kylo was letting him.
