How do answer requests work on Quora?

An answer request occurs when you post a new question and click on someone in the list of names Quora pops up. This then appears as an “Ask To Answer” (A2A) in that person’s feed. Let me add a little supplementary information to my answer.

Why are people requesting my answer on Quora?
