How did the istari come to Middle-earth?

Outwardly resembling Men but possessing much greater physical and mental power, they are called Istari (Quenya for “Wise Ones”) by the Elves. They were sent by the Valar to assist the free peoples of Middle-earth in the Third Age to counter the Dark Lord Sauron, a fallen Maia of great power.

The other two Istari, known as Alatar and Pallando (the Blue Wizards), were close friends. The two of them were into the East, where according to Tolkien they founded cults of magic that may have fought against Sauron. Their fate remains largely unknown, as they are rarely mentioned in Tolkien’s legendarium.

Yavanna asked Curumo to take Aiwendil also (later named Radagast), and Morinehtar took Rómestámo ( Pallando) as a friend. They were forbidden to dominate the free peoples of Middle-earth or to match Sauron’s power with power and if they deviated from their appointed task their powers and memory of Valinor would begin to wane.
