The Latin alphabet is based indirectly on the Greek, which was adapted from Semitic speaking peoples, who ultimately adapted theirs from the Egyptians. The Latin alphabet did not evolve from Egyptian hieroglyphs, at least not directly. It, like the Greek alphabet, was adapted from Phoenician writing.
