Do electric cars need a front grill?

Electric vehicle designers have a new canvas on which to mark their brand image: the front end. Since EVs don’t contain hot combustion engines, they don’t need the grilles that have shaped the look of autos for decades, with large air vents to cool what’s behind them.

Why do electric cars still have grills?

The grille is to let in air to take heat from the radiator which carries away excess heat from the engine. Electric vehicles have electric motors distributed in the body with fewer moving parts, and so they produce much less heat.
