In 2001 TSA (Transport Security Agency) stepped up their security, and now all items that can be used as weapons are banned from cabin luggage, including knives. This means that you can freely pack them inside your carry-on, personal item, or bring them in your pocket when going through airport security.

TSA states that “[a]ny sharp objects in checked bags should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors.” What if the knife is shorter than 2.36 inches? Knives are no longer allowed even if they are shorter than 2.36 inches.

The air pressure will not break the jar, most cargo bins are pressurized. The baggage handlers will not break the jar if it is properly cushioned. The baggage belt system where you first check the bag will smash it to hell, unless you protect it top and bottom, wrap in plastic and probably a towel as well.
