Can you request books from other libraries?

It’s called interlibrary loan, or ILL. Yes, libraries borrow books from each other. They prefer to conduct interlibrary loan services within the network. If that’s not possible, then they use the mail or the various commercial delivery services like UPS.

Can you borrow books from other libraries on Libby?

Yes, you’ll need a library card for each library you want to borrow from. You can add multiple libraries to Libby, and you can even add multiple cards for each library.

Can I borrow books from the Library of Congress?

Please note: Individuals do not have permission to borrow directly from the Library of Congress. You must go through your public library or university library in order to borrow from us.

How can I access Libby without a library card?

If you don’t have a library card yet, your library may have instructions or an easy way to get one directly from Libby. At the top of the library’s home screen in Libby, tap I Would Like A Library Card or Use My Phone Number and follow the prompts.

Can you get a copy of a book from the Library of Congress?

The Library of Congress does not sell or remove books from its collections. We suggest you ask your local library to request books for your use through the Interlibrary Loan service. Your library may be able to borrow a book from the Library of Congress collection on your behalf.

Can you check out books from Library of Congress?

Who can use the Library and check out books? The Library of Congress is a research library, and books are used only on the premises by members of the public. Anyone age 16 and older may use the collections. All patrons using the Library’s reading rooms and/or collections must have a reader card with a photo on it.
