Can you make a gas pedal less sensitive?

Unless you’re a trained mechanic, there isn’t anything you can do yourself to change your pedal sensitivity. While we know that this likely isn’t the answer you were looking for, it’s important to remember that altering your gas and brake pedals without proper training is incredibly dangerous.

Why is my car so touchy?

Pad or rotor contamination may cause braking to become sensitive. Fluids like brake fluid, coolant, diesel, gas, power steering, transmission, gear oil, etc could cause the pad materiel to break down. Similarly, rotor hot spots, damaged, pitted or rough metal could cause the brakes to bite aggressively.

What happens if you take your foot off the accelerator?

If you were to take your foot off the gas, all that energy will have been wasted and as a danger to you, the engine will start to slow down which in turn will slow the vehicle via “engine braking”.

Nothing else will happen. The injectors will not squirt, there will be no sparks, the engine is off and at rest. If you have a car with a manual throttle cable, and you have the key off, engine off, you may be able to hear the flap in the throttle body making noises from under the hood.

If you release the accelerator when you release the clutch the car will stall. If you maintain holding the accelerator to the floor and dump the clutch the tires will start spinning or your transmission may break.
