Can you lose your emotions?
When you lose the ability to feel or express any emotions, this is called flat affect. If you feel numb only to positive emotions but are still able to feel negative emotions, this is called anhedonia. Anhedonia is a common symptom of depression and shows up in a lot of mental health conditions.
What is Anergia?
Anergia is a chronic state of lethargy and low energy, commonly characterized by the inability to complete normal tasks. People with anergia may be constantly sleepy or lethargic, and may appear to have no interest in their hobbies, work activities, or social lives.
How does depression start in the brain?
Research suggests that depression doesn’t spring from simply having too much or too little of certain brain chemicals. Rather, there are many possible causes of depression, including faulty mood regulation by the brain, genetic vulnerability, stressful life events, medications, and medical problems.
Why do I always want to be alone?
Solitude-seekers may, in fact, be feeling lonely, anxious, and depressed if they choose to be alone because they don’t think other people like them, feel like they are always saying the wrong thing, or they can’t be themselves when they are with other people.
Do you struggle with speaking up for yourself?
If you struggle at all with speaking up, take some time this week and examine closely what you learned in childhood about how safe it was to speak up for yourself. Ask yourself, “What do I remember about how it went when I said to my authority figures “No,” “I don’t’ agree with you,” or “Don’t do that to me.”
What do you do when you don’t want to do anything?
We hate to be the bearer of more bad news, but the main thing that you need to do when you don’t want to do anything – is to do something. You have to pick yourself up and contact a primary care physician to rule out any medical issues and get a depression screening to see if what you’ve been feeling is indeed related to depression.
How do you deal with people who don’t give?
The way to do that is to remove the emotion, and communicate calmly, accurately and clearly (without disdain, anger and disrespect) what you need of them, and what they’re not giving. Don’t procrastinate on this. Do it today. Offer clear examples of the turn-around behavior you need, and share that with compassion, gentleness and respect.
Is it normal to not want to do anything in life?
When you don’t feel like doing anything, often you really don’t want to do anything. Nothing sounds good to you, and even well-intentioned suggestions from loved ones might make you a little cranky. Often, these feelings are normal and temporary, triggered by stress or a busier-than-usual lifestyle.
