Can Hyperovulation cause twins?

A multiple pregnancy can happen due to hyperovulation, but it’s not the only way. Identical twins are formed when one egg is fertilized and then it splits, creating two fetuses with identical DNA.

A 2006 study performed ultrasounds around ovulation in one to three cycles for 105 women, and found that 21\% of women had at least one cycle where hyperovulation occurred. Other studies that are a bit more dated put the prevalence of hyperovulation at closer to 10\%.
