Are there Ents in the old forest?
The Hobbits believed the trees of the Old Forest were in some manner “awake”. Ever since then, the trees were more hostile –the Huorns. In any event, despite being an ancient and “awake” forest, no Ents tend to this woodland, and it seems to be avoided by Elves as well.

What is so bad about Fangorn forest?
Treebeard himself points out that Fangorn as a forest is dangerous – primarily due to Huorns, who do not appear to like intruders. In fact, if it were not for the Ents, Fangorn would be much like the Old Forest at the borders of Shire.
