As a rule of thumb, torque wrenches are most accurate in the middle of their acceptable range and least accurate at the top and lowest 10\%. For example, if a wrench is rated for 10 ft-lbs to 100 ft-lbs, it’s least likely to be accurate below 19 ft-lbs and above 91 ft-lbs.

Can you use a torque wrench to loosen a bolt?

I would recommend that you do not purchase one, wide ranged torque wrench, but rather get 2 torque wrenches that cover the low and high torque spectrum. A 1/4 or 3/8ths for the smaller torque values, and a larger, 3/8ths inch torque wrench for bigger stuff.
