Why does it hurt so much when a narcissist discards you?

Why does it hurt so much when a narcissist discards you?

It is particularly painful because the loss is intentional and is done by someone who knows you well and who has volitionally chosen to throw you way. The pain of this personal rejection hurts profoundly because the other person is telling you that you are unacceptable.

Why can’t a narcissist be happy for you?

Narcissistic people are unable to feel genuine happiness because they severely, or even completely, lack a sense of genuine self. As a result, they are chronically miserable people who desperately try to feel better by constantly managing their fragile and skewed sense of self-esteem.

Why does a narcissist keep looking for a new narcissist?

A typical narcissist is always in search of the narcissistic supply. So, as the relationship is fading now, the narcissist suffers the lack of the narcissistic supply. The lower the narcissist feels your value, the lesser your relationship strokes his/her ego. Thus, the narcissist constantly starts searching for a new narcissistic supply.

Why do narcissists feel devastated when they lose supply?

That is why the devastation they feel at the loss of supply is not due to the loss of the survivor, but rather, the loss of power they once held over the survivor. Narcissists rely on narcissistic supply (anything in the form of praise, money, gifts, sex, attention, etc.) to survive their daily experience.

How does a narcissist feel when he is hurt?

When a narcissist is hurt or when he senses that his painful past is about to repeat itself, he enters into predatory mode to protect himself. Once they are in this mode, feelings like guilt, remorse and empty are completely blocked because they would be disadvantageous. The same way you feel less pain when you are in fight or flight mode.

When does a narcissist devalue you in a relationship?

Gradually, the relationship no longer gives him the ego boost/ the narcissistic supply. This is when the narcissist starts devaluing you. This initially begins in a funny way which as days pass by turns into serious devaluations.
