Why are hobbits less affected by the Ring?
Chief among the reasons that the hobbits are more resistant to the Ring is that they do not crave power, lust after fame, or desire to rule over any others. Many of the other characters in The Lord of the Rings have their own agendas and secret desires, which the Ring is able to corrupt them through.
Why did Frodo carry the Ring?
The ring had the power to corrupt a person. So taking the ring to the mountain was itself a very hard task to achieve. While fighting over the ring, Frodo was the one who stepped forward to volunteer in carrying the ring to the mountain where it was forged. Everybody then decided to let him carry the ring.
What was Smeagol’s personality like before he got the ring?
According to LotR, Smeagol was rather nasty before acquiring his “birthday present”. Its acquisition made doing nasty stuff easier. After that, he had the ring for much longer than a Hobbit lifetime, the better part of an age. Bilbo, Frodo and Sam were rather nice people before acquiring the ring and mostly stayed that way.
What happened to Sméagol/Gollum?
Sméagol/Gollum was clearly not as resistant to the Ring as Bilbo and Frodo, although even in his case, after hundreds of years of using the Ring, he managed a retain a small vestige of his Hobbit identity. As Gandalf tells Frodo at Bag End Even Gollum was not wholly ruined.
Did Frodo suffer when he put on the eye of Sauron?
Every time Frodo put on the ring the Eye of Sauron could see where he was and almost see into his soul as well. Frodo appeared to suffer hugely when he put the ring on.
Did Smeagol tell Gandalf about the murder of Deagol?
In particular, I much doubt he would have clearly told about the murder of Deagol – perhaps Smeagol (Slinker) first denied having anything to do with it, and then Gollum (Stinker) suddenly came out, evil-exaggeratingly, with the story that Gandalf later told Frodo.
