Why did Melian leave Doriath?
In choosing to dwell in Middle Earth, Melian voluntarily sacrificed paradise for the sake of the Children of Illuvatar. True, her reasons were partially selfish. She loved Elu Thingol and stayed primarily for his sake.

Rule of Doriath For centuries Elwë remained lost until he re-emerged as a respected lord and many of his people joined him in the forest of Doriath in Beleriand. Now known as Elu Thingol, he and Melian become king and queen of the Teleri who remained in Beleriand, who then became known as the Sindar.

Thingol’s arrogance eventually resulted to his death in the Battle of the Thousand Caves. Melian then vanished from the mortal lands, passing to Valinor, where she mourned the loss of her husband in the Halls of Mandos and her daughter to the unknown fate of the Gift of Men.
