What would happen if you dropped a rope from space?

Posted on August 25, 2022 by Author

What would happen if you dropped a rope from space?

The rope would break. There’s currently no material strong enough to anchor something over that distance and with that force. If it’s magical unbreakable rope, then it would immediately start to wrap around the Earth and pull the object down to the ground.

Could you climb a rope to space?

It would have to be incredibly strong to handle the gravitational and centrifugal forces pulling on it. The steel used in tall buildings wouldn’t work for a space elevator cable. You’d need a higher mass of steel than all the mass in the universe, Landgraf noted in a 2013 TEDx talk.

What would happen if we tied the Earth to the Moon?

If the connection was between the North Pole (or South Pole) of the Earth and the moon, and the rope can rotate around the anchor point on Earth, then absolutely nothing will happen. The moon will continue its path around the Earth and there will be a string between them.

How tall is space?

The top of the observable Universe it currently about 46 billion light years up.

Where would a space elevator be built?

To reduce risks to people, a space elevator should be located on or next to an ocean and away from any large population centers. Environmental Impact – Any elevator site will need major infrastructure improvements constructed around it and thus could not be placed in an environmentally or ecologically sensitive area.

How tall is space elevator?

A feasible space elevator would have to be at least 35,786 km (22,236 mi) tall – the height at which an object reaches Geostationary Orbit around Earth.

Could we tie a rope to the moon?

No. It can’t be. Many people think that just because the moon is tidally locked to the Earth and the same side of the moon is also always visible, so we can make an elevator all the way up to the moon or connect both with a rope… but its a wrong concept.

Can we pull moon with rope?

Well you can definitely pull moon with an unbreakable rope, although greater force would be required and human force alone wont be enough to accomplish such a feat.

Is anyone building a space elevator?

NASA says the basic concept of a space elevator is sound, and researchers around the world are optimistic that one can be built. The Obayashi Corp., a global construction firm based in Tokyo, has said it will build one by 2050, and China wants to build one as soon as 2045.

What would happen if you fell into this hole?

What would happen if you fell into this hole? After falling about 0.15 kilometers (0.002\% of the way to earth’s center), you encounter about 20 atmospheres of air pressure and die from hyperoxia. The farther your corpse falls, the more it becomes crushed by the intense air pressure.

What happens to gravity the farther you fall down?

The farther you fall, the weaker the gravity becomes because more and more of the earth’s mass is above you canceling the gravity from the other side of the earth. Also, as you fall, the air pressure goes up so that the air exerts more force against your motion.

Can you dig a hole to the other side of Earth?

For the sake of the argument, let’s assume you could dig a wide, perfectly straight hole directly down to the center of earth and out to the other side of earth. Further suppose the hole has a strong enough wall to keep it from collapsing or melting. What would happen if you fell into this hole?

What happens to your body when you fall to Earth’s Center?

After falling about 1.1 kilometers (0.02\% of the way to earth’s center), you encounter a temperature of about 320 Kelvin and die of heat stroke. After falling a total distance of about 2.7 kilometers (0.04\% of the way to earth’s center), your corpse encounters a temperature of about 400 Kelvin and your bodily fluids begin to boil away.
