What would happen if there was no background music?

Without background music, these people would be more easily distracted from the tasks that they’re undertaking. For other people, background music itself would constitute too much of a distraction, diverting attention away from the task at hand.

Does everyone sound great when they play a musical instrument?

 Most everyone else won’t sound that great at first.  Playing a musical instrument is a craft that, if practiced correctly, is something that allchildren can find success in.  As long as students know how to practice and that it needs to be done regularly, they will get better.

Is it bad to listen to music without consent?

For both types of people however, the important factor would be whether or not they liked and selected the music. Music that is present without your consent is always more like it cause negative effects and impact on your performance on the task at hand.

Yeah, Music is pretty much a dire choice of subject unless you go to one of the top unis or music colleges… I studied Music for 4 years. Now I am going to do a Masters in Computer Science from a top uni hoping someone will hire me.
