How fast does air come out of a jet engine?

The gas turbine itself – Generally a nozzle is formed at the exhaust end of the gas turbine (not shown in this figure) to generate a high-speed jet of exhaust gas. A typical speed for air molecules exiting the engine is 1,300 mph (2,092 kph).

Why doesn’t all the air in a jet engine go through the combustion chamber?

The combustion does not create enough pressure to overcome all of that, and there is lower pressure as the air gets expanded through the turbine sections.

$\\begingroup$I read that adding heat to a flow with a Mach number greater than 1 will decrease the Mach number toward 1, and adding heat to a Mach number less than 1 will increase the velocity. If this is true, wouldn’t it set a limit to the speed of a jet engine?
