Are vegan studies biased?

There are a number of studies showing that vegetarians and vegans live longer and have a lower risk of some serious diseases (54, 55). However, these studies are plagued by a phenomenon called the healthy user bias. What this implies, is that vegetarians are generally more health conscious than meat eaters.
