Are firefighters/paramedics or EMTs?

Most firefighters are EMT’s or Paramedics. In many areas, there are more fire engines in a given area than ambulances, so firefighters will usually be the first to arrive and give medical care in an emergency. Let’s take a look at fire department staffing and why that allows firefighters to respond to medical calls.

Firefighter/EMTs are able to respond to medical incidents, making them more useful in the eyes of the beancounters who are always looking to cut costs. They can better understand medical decisions on scene, assist with medical procedures etc… they become a force multiplier if they are also an end.

How to become a firefighter paramedic?

To become a firefighter/paramedic, individuals need a High School diploma or a GED and require additional training and certifications. EMT, CPR training, and certification are also required, as well as the ability to pass a firefighter certification exam.
