International days are occasions to educate the general public on issues of concern, to mobilise political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.

A National Day is a special day where people celebrate their country or nation each year. In many countries which used to be colonies, the national day is known as Independence Day because it remembers the day they became free of their old empire.
