Why does wind turn off fire?

Wind increases the supply of oxygen, which results in the fire burning more rapidly. It also removes the surface fuel moisture, which increases the drying of the fuel. It may cause the fire to crown into the top of the trees and to jump barriers that would normally stop a fire.

Can wind turn off fire?

As it strengthens, it provides more oxygen and the fire flares up. However eventually the wind, if strong enough will take heat away from the flame so there is not enough heat to sustain continuous combustion and the flame is extinguished.

Why does blowing put out a flame?

When you blow, you cool down the gases and the surface of the candle and spread out the wax vapor. So when you blow on it, there’s no longer a region which has enough wax molecules in it and also is hot enough to get the reaction to occur. The surface of the candle has plenty of wax, but it isn’t hot enough.

Can wind snuff out fire?

TL:DR; wind hurts when it brings oxygen to a partially-combusted, hot fire, and helps when it lowers heat and disperses reactive materials, promoting complete combustion. When a fire is fully ignited, only complete combustion or dispersion below the lower flammability limit will stop a fire.
