Why can the one ring only be destroyed in Mount Doom?
The most famous of Sauron’s creations forged at Mount Doom is the One Ring. In The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf explains that the materials of which the Ring is made are so durable and the enchantments with which it is imbued so powerful that it can only be destroyed in the Cracks of Doom where it was made.
What if Gollum put on the Ring?
Gollum would have died anyway and then the Ring would be destroyed. Although the Ring contains an enormous amount of power which can be used by the wearer, the wearer has to have the skill, the knowledge and he has to have enough of his own power to be able to bend the Ring’s will to his own.
How long was the Ring lost before Gollum found it?
Ring-bearers
Order | Name of Holder | Duration |
---|---|---|
— | the ring was lost in the Anduin | 2461 years |
3rd | Déagol | A few minutes |
4th | Gollum (Sméagol) | 478 years |
5th | Bilbo Baggins | 60 years |
Why did the Ring abandoned Gollum?
The Ring abandoned Gollum because he was no longer any use to It: he had shrunk down into a wiry little creature lurking in the shadows, and he was never ever going to take It outside the tunnels again. It again seized the right time: he was away from his lair, hunting young goblins.
What would have happened if Bilbo killed Gollum?
What probably would have happened is that Bilbo would have taken the ring above ground and used it over time. The more he used it, the more he would need to use it and the more he would enter the spirit realm and be sensed by Sauron. Sauron would have eventually found him and taken the ring back and ruled Middle Earth.
Did Gollum ever wear the Ring?
Ever? Yes absolutely. It’s explicitly stated in “The Shadow of the Past”, when Gandalf recalls what he learned from interrogating Gollum: “But Sméagol returned alone; and he found that none of his family could see him, when he was wearing the ring.”
