Why am I allergic to my underwear?

Since clothing is in close contact with your skin most of the day, it’s no surprise that your shirts, pants, and undies can cause skin problems. Any kind of fiber can bring on a rash, but you’re more likely to get textile dermatitis from clothes made with synthetics such as polyester, rayon, nylon, spandex, or rubber.

Can I be allergic to my underwear?

The dyes, chemicals and preservatives found in underwear fabrics like latex can cause a contact dermatitis in certain people. And while it may be a relief to find out that itchy rash that’s been bugging you isn’t something more severe, an underwear allergy can still lead to some pretty nasty results.

Why is my underwear giving me a rash?

A yeast or bacterial infection can cause a rash. So can irritation from problems with bladder or bowel control. Protective underwear also can cause rashes or irritate the skin. Or a person may be allergic to the scents in the material.

  3. Clean the area daily, and check for rashes so that you can treat them as soon as they happen.
