What would happen if you drilled a hole through the Earth and dropped a stone?

What would happen if you drilled a hole through the Earth and dropped a stone?

We toss a stone into the hole. The stone is pulled down towards the center of the earth. It falls all the way to the middle of the earth once it reaches the middle, theres no more pull of gravity. It would go up a ways, then (due to the pull of gravity) fall back in the other direction, back towards the center.

How deep would you have to drill to reach the center of the Earth in kilometers?

In order to be able to dig down to the center of the Earth, my friends and I would have needed to dig our way through 6,378 km of rock, mantle, and iron. Most of this journey would be through temperatures hot enough to melt rock, getting as high as 7,000 Kelvin at the center.

What would happen if the Earth was a cube?

The top and the bottom faces would be polar, while the remaing four sides would enjoy an equatorial climate. However, if the Earth was a cube that rotated through its corners, then each side would have a temperate climate, you could say good bye to extreme temperatures and precipitation.

What would happen if the Earth Stood Still?

If the earth stood still, the oceans would gradually migrate toward the poles and cause land in the equatorial region to emerge. This would eventually result in a huge equatorial megacontinent and two large polar oceans.

What would happen if we drilled into the earth’s core?

Your ‘down’ trip would have gravity increasing your speed every second as you are pulled towards the core, propelling your way through Earth until you reached the center. Once there, gravity would begin acting as a buffer against you, making your ‘up’ trip increasingly slower.

The strength of gravity at the center of earth is zero because there are equal amounts of matter in all directions, all exerting an equal gravitational pull. With such thick air, you eventually lose momentum and stop your yo-yo motion about the center of the earth. You end up stuck floating at the center of the earth.

What if Earth had two suns?

The Earth’s orbit could be stable if the planet rotated around the two stars. The stars would have to be close together, and the Earth’s orbit would be further away. Most likely, beyond the habitable zone, where the heat of the suns wouldn’t be enough to keep our water in a liquid state.

What if the Earth had no moon?

Without the moon, we would see an increase in wind speeds. The moon influences life as we know it on Earth. It influences our oceans, weather, and the hours in our days. Without the moon, tides would fall, nights would be darker, seasons would change, and the length of our days would alter.
