What is the advantage of a space telescope like the Hubble telescope?

What is the advantage of a space telescope like the Hubble telescope?

The Hubble telescope provides four key advantages over most other optical astronomical facilities: unprecedented angular resolution over a large field, spectral coverage from the near infrared to the far ultraviolet, an extremely dark sky, and highly stable images that enable precision photometry.

What is the advantage of the James Webb Telescope Being in a solar orbit?

A Solar Orbit What is special about this orbit is that it lets the telescope stay in line with the Earth as it moves around the Sun. This allows the satellite’s large sunshield to protect the telescope from the light and heat of the Sun and Earth (and Moon).

What is the difference between Hubble and Webb Space Telescope?

Webb will primarily look at the Universe in the infrared, while Hubble studies it primarily at optical and ultraviolet wavelengths (though it has some infrared capability). Webb also has a much bigger mirror than Hubble.

What is the replacement for the Hubble telescope?

Webb often gets called the replacement for Hubble, but we prefer to call it a successor. Hubble’s science pushed us to look to longer wavelengths to “go beyond” what Hubble has already done. Comparison of the Carina Nebula in visible light (left) and infrared (right), both images by Hubble.

What is the difference between the Herschel Space Observatory and Webb?

The Herschel Space Observatory was an infrared telescope built by the European Space Agency – it too orbited the L2 point (where Webb will be). The primary difference between Webb and Herschel is wavelength range: Webb goes from 0.6 to 28.5 microns; Herschel went from 60 to 500 microns.

Can we see Baby galaxies with the Webb Telescope?

Essentially, Hubble can see the equivalent of “toddler galaxies” and Webb Telescope will be able to see “baby galaxies”. One reason Webb will be able to see the first galaxies is because it is an infrared telescope. The universe (and thus the galaxies in it) is expanding.
