Dentistry provides opportunities in a variety of private and public settings including private practice, teaching, research, public health and administration.

    Overall trust and service with patients and team. Variety of tasks plus interaction with patients. Education faculty. Helping others while using the newest technological advances available in dentistry.

    I enjoy the opportunities to interact with my patients about the new technologies and procedures available to them. I love watching patients feel more comfortable with new products or techniques, such as dental implants. Dentistry allows me to spend time with people and to help them achieve their dental goals.

    The hardest part of being a dentist is having to watch helplessly as people neglect themselves. So many instances of seeing patients in pain due to ignoring small problems that got out of hand, dealing with their pain, encouraging and educating them to take control of their oral health, and never seeing them again.

    There’s no doubt about it — dentistry is a fantastic career for the future. Just as people will always need doctors, nurses and medical assistants to take care of their bodies, so too will people always deen dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants to take care of their oral health.

It is a very caring profession, and the relationships are the best part of it. Unlike some other businesses it ISN’T all about the money. Variety. It’s always challenging and interesting.

    “Most of my dental horror stories come from one simple category: neglect. For example, tartar and plaque build-up [can be] so severe that it forms a bridge between the teeth (known as a calculus bridge). I’ve seen teeth just fall out because once the build-up was removed, there was nothing to keep them in place.”
