What are the advantages of Erlang?

Erlang has three significant advantages over other programming languages, which mainly stem from the unique way the language is built.

  • Concurrency. BEAM, the Erlang virtual machine, uses lightweight threads of execution (called processes).
  • Scalability.
  • Reliability.

Why would a programmer want to use Java?

Nowadays, Java is often the default choice for scientific applications, including natural language processing. The main reason for this is because it is safe, portable, maintainable and comes with better high-level concurrency tools than C++ or any other language.

Why is Java the best language?

1) Java is simpler, the syntax is much more readable than C, C++ or any other language. 2) Java is good to learn Object-Oriented programming, but not so good for procedural one, prefer C there. When you install Java, most of these feature comes as part of the installation only.

What is BEAM language?

BEAM is part of the Erlang Run-Time System (ERTS), which compiles Erlang source code into bytecode, which is then executed on the BEAM. The predecessor of the BEAM was JAM (Joe’s Abstract Machine), which was the first virtual machine for the Erlang language and was written by Joe Armstrong.

Quoting the language authors: “Erlang is a programming language used to build massively scalable soft real-time systems with requirements on high availability”. Since its inception it has had a solid understanding of the problems it has intended to solve. Any design trade-offs could have been solved by focusing on a single goal.
