What are LED lights and how do they work?

An LED bulb produces light by passing the electric current through a semiconducting material—the diode—which then emits photons (light) through the principle of electroluminescence. Don’t let that big word scare you! It essentially means that a material (in this case, the diode) casts light when power is applied to it.

What do LED lights include?

LEDs are comprised of compound semiconductor materials, which are made up of elements from group III and group V of the periodic table (these are known as III-V materials). Examples of III-V materials commonly used to make LEDs are gallium arsenide (GaAs) and gallium phosphide (GaP).

What LED means?

Light-emitting diode
Light-emitting diode/Full name

Why do we prefer LED?

Improved Safety with LEDs: LEDs emit almost no forward heat while traditional bulbs like incandescents convert more than 90\% of the total energy used to power them directly into heat. Additionally, because LEDs consume less power they can operate effectively on low-voltage electrical systems.

What LED lights are dimmable?

Dimmable LED Light Bulbs. While many LED bulbs are now dimmable, not all of them are and not all of them dim daylight lighting in the same way. Since LEDs consume such a low wattage, many types of dimmers do not function with LED in the same way that they do with high wattage load incandescents.

What are LED lights definition?

An LED light bulb is a solid-state lighting (SSL) device that fits in standard screw-in connections but uses LEDs (light-emitting diodes) to produce light.

What do LED lights mean?

LED stands for ‘Light Emitting Diode’, a semiconductor device that converts electricity into light. LED lights are super energy efficient, using approximately 85\% less energy than halogen or incandescent lighting – meaning significant savings on your power bills.

What is lead vs led?
