Is there such a thing as nothingness?

Nothingness is just a concept but people take the word so literally that they believe there is such a thing as nothingness. Death could still possibly be like going into an eternal sleep, but it does not mean ceasing to exist. There are larger implications when it is realized that there is no such thing as ceasing to exist.
