Is it possible that a body moving horizontally with an acceleration in vertical direction?

Posted on August 30, 2022 by Author

Is it possible that a body moving horizontally with an acceleration in vertical direction?

Yes, Its possible. A body projected at some angle will have horizontal motion, while Acceleration due to gravity “g” will be acting vertically down. For example: When a body tied with rope moves in a vertical circular path, at the bottom most point velocity is horizontal and acceleration is in the vertical direction.

Why is it that the horizontal motion of a projectile remains constant in the duration of its motion?

A projectile is an object upon which the only force is gravity. Due to the absence of horizontal forces, a projectile remains in motion with a constant horizontal velocity. Horizontal forces are not required to keep a projectile moving horizontally.

Is it possible for an object to have a horizontal component of velocity that is constant at the same time that the object is accelerating in the vertical direction?

Is it possible for an object to have a horizontal component of velocity that is constant at the same time that the object is accelerating in the vertical direction? No, the velocity of the ball is constant in the x- and y-direction , so the direction of the velocity vector does not change.

Why is there no horizontal acceleration in projectile motion?

The horizontal acceleration is zero for projectile motion because there is no force acting on the projectile that would produce any acceleration in the horizontal direction. Acceleration is the result of a net force acting on an object.

Is it possible for a body to have zero velocity but constant acceleration?

Yes,a body can have zero velocity ,and constant acceleration. A body will have zero velocity when in a circular motion, i.e the body comes back to its initial position. Since the motion is circular, there will be a constant acceleration.

Can a body moving with a constant speed have accelerated motion?

Yes, it is possible. When a body is in a uniform circular motion, its speed remains constant. But its acceleration is non-zero as the direction of motion is changing continuously. A body moving with a uniform speed can have acceleration.

Why does the direction of motion of a projectile becomes horizontal at?

At the highest point vertical component of velocity becomes zero thus direction of motion of projectile becomes horizontal.

What happens to the horizontal component of the velocity of a projectile as it moves?

The horizontal velocity of a projectile is constant (a never changing in value), There is a vertical acceleration caused by gravity; its value is 9.8 m/s/s, down, The vertical velocity of a projectile changes by 9.8 m/s each second, The horizontal motion of a projectile is independent of its vertical motion.

Is vertical sideways?

The terms vertical and horizontal often describe directions: a vertical line goes up and down, and a horizontal line goes across. You can remember which direction is vertical by the letter, “v,” which points down.

Can a body be rest and motion at the same time?

Yes, an object can be at rest with respect to one object and can bein motion with respect to one object and can be in motion with respect to another object. Thus rest and motion are relative terms.

Can an object with horizontal motion experience vertical acceleration?

If an object continues to move purely in the horizontal direction then it does NOT experience vertical acceleration. Vertical acceleration assures us that some vertical motion is occurring. There can be a vertical acceleration acting on a body moving horizontally at one instant.

Is gravitational force always acting vertically?

Yes, on every body which is moving in horizontal direction, a gravitational acceleration is always acting vertically downwards due to gravitational force of earth by which earth pulls every body towards its center. 2 bodies start moving from the same height. One falls vertically. The other is thrown horizontally.

What is the direction of the body in uniform circular motion?

(c) an object moving in a certain direction with an acceleration in the perpendicular direction. Whenever a body is in a uniform circular motion, the direction of the body is always perpendicular to the acceleration of the body. The acceleration of the body is along the radius, while the direction of the body is along the tangent.

Is it possible for a body to have zero velocity?

the velocity of the body becomes zero. But it still accelerates with a constant acceleration, which is equal to the acceleration due to gravity (g). Thus, it is possible for a body to have zero
