Is it hard to read classics?

Classic is hard to read because of its language, mostly archaic language is used in classical literature and it is not easy for modern readers to understand it because we are not familiar with this kind of vocabulary. For example words of Shakespeare and Marlowe are so hard to understand.

How long would it take to read all the classics?

Based on that 300 number, you could breeze through the majority of the classic works in fewer than 10 hours each. Sure, some are really long reads (consider Les Miserables and The Count of Monte Cristo, which take upwards of 30 hours to read), but most are doable in a week if you simply read for an hour a day.

Again, this doesn’t mean that classics aren’t good. They are simply overwritten or they were written for audiences which were accustomed to the narrative structures that they used when they were written. That’s what makes them seem to be boring to some.

Can you read every book on earth?

According to Google’s advanced algorithms, the answer is nearly 130 million books, or 129,864,880, to be exact (as of 2010). It would not be remotely possible to read every book ever published in the world.

Why should classic literature be taught?

Classic books give us a view of different cultures, different worlds, and different perspectives of history. Reading books with strong ideas in them is good for your mind. You benefit even if you don’t agree with those ideas because, in that way, you discover the validity and strength of your own ideas.
