How does one become a Zen master?
The reality is completely different: There’s 2 ways to become a master :
- Go to Japan. Ask to be admitted in a Zen monastry. Practice zazen and follow the temple rule, eat when other monks eat, sleep when they sleep, do the work that is assigned to you.
- Find a Western zen master. Practice zazen.
How do you do Shikantaza?
All you should do is try and keep your back relatively straight (in other words, don’t slouch in a recliner). Place your hands on your thighs, close your eyes, and feel your breathing. Concentrate on the fact that you are breathing. Feel your in-breaths; feel your out-breaths.
How do you become a master chess player?
You also cannot become a master by playing without consistently studying, learning, analyzing, and improving.
