How do you find the x and y coordinates of a line?

To find out the coordinates of a point in the coordinate system you do the opposite. Begin at the point and follow a vertical line either up or down to the x-axis. There is your x-coordinate. And then do the same but following a horizontal line to find the y-coordinate.

How do you find the coordinates of two points on a line with a given equation?

To find points on the line y = mx + b,

  1. choose x and solve the equation for y, or.
  2. choose y and solve for x.

How do you find the coordinates of a point with a gradient?

Write down the formula for the slope of the line as M = (Y2 – Y1)/(X2 – X1), where M is the slope of the line, Y2 is the y-coordinate of a point called “A” on the line, X2 is the x-coordinate of point “A,” Y1 is the y-coordinate of a point called “B” on the line and X1 is the x-coordinate of point B.

How do you find the coordinates of a point?

How to Find Coordinates of a Point?

  1. Go to the coordinate graph having lines X’OX, Y’OY.
  2. Check out which quadrant of the graph has an ordered pair or a point.
  3. To get the abscissa, measure the distance of the point from the x-axis.
  4. Likewise, measure the distance of the point from the y-axis to obtain the ordinate value.

Does the point lie on the line?

To determine if a point is on a line you can simply subsitute the x and y coordinates into the equation. Another way to solve the problem would be to graph the line and see if it falls on the line. Plugging in will give which is a true statement, so it is on the line.

How do you find the Y-intercept with slope and coordinates?

Using the “slope-intercept” form of the line’s equation (y = mx + b), you solve for b (which is the y-intercept you’re looking for). Substitute the known slope for m, and substitute the known point’s coordinates for x and y, respectively, in the slope-intercept equation. That will let you find b.

How do you find out if a point is on a line with an equation?

Correct answer: To determine if a point is on a line you can simply subsitute the x and y coordinates into the equation. Another way to solve the problem would be to graph the line and see if it falls on the line. Plugging in will give which is a true statement, so it is on the line.

How do you find the y-coordinate of a line?

Referring to the figure, you can see that where the line crosses the x-axis, the y-coordinate is zero. So we substitute zero into the equation for y, and solve it for x: 0 = 0.52x +10 Subtract 10 from both sides and we get

How do you find the slope of a perpendicular line equation?

Another option would just be to calculate the x difference and double it to get the opposite x coordinate and pop that into your perpendicular line equation. So any equation perpendicular to the initial one will have slope − 1 2 as you suggest.

How do you find the Y value of a linear equation?

Just plug the x value in to the equation and find your y. Every linear line ( on a graph) can be simplified into y=mx+b, lets make a random equation, y=4x+32. You can also plug in a y value for this equation but wait on that for now.

What is the slope of the line y = -2x + 5?

You get y = -2 x +5, so the slope is –2. Perpendicular lines have opposite-reciprocal slopes, so the slope of the line we want to find is 1/2. Plugging in the point given into the equation y = 1/2 x + b and solving for b, we get b = 6. Thus, the equation of the line is y = ½ x + 6. Rearranged, it is – x /2 + y = 6.
