How do I get Alexa to talk to me?

Update the Alexa App. Make sure you’re running the latest version of the Alexa app for iOS or Android.

  • App Permissions. After the update has finished,fire up the Alexa app. Tap on the blue circle at the bottom of the screen.
  • Talk to Alexa. Alexa then goes into listening mode. To ask Alexa something,there’s no need to say her name.
  • Using the App. Each time you want to talk to Alexa through the app,just tap on that blue circle.
  • Listens for Alexa. Listens for Alexa,or just Alexa Listens,is another option that allows you to talk directly to Alexa on your Android device.
  • Change Settings. Listens for Alexa then appears on the screen. Tap on the Settings button. At the Settings screen,choose which options to turn on and off.
  • Using the App. Tap on the microphone icon in Listens for Alexa. Wait a second for the app to segue into Listening mode then pose your question or request.
  • Customize Alexa. To try out the app in always-on listening mode,open it again and tap on the Settings button. Turn on the option to enable Alexa “Always-On Listener.”

    How to make a call with Alexa?

    To make a call with the Alexa app on your phone, make sure you’re at the Communicate screen. Tap the Call icon and then select the contact you want to call. If that person is set up to receive calls through an Echo device or the Alexa app, you’ll see options for making an audio or video call to them.

    Make sure your computer is connected to an active Internet connection.

  • To open Alexa,click Start,and then click the Alexa on Windows app.
  • The setup screen displays. Click Set up Amazon Alexa.
  • On the Terms and Conditions screen,click Continue.
  • Select the settings you want and then click Finish setup. You can change these later from inside the app.
  • Click Sign in to sign in to your Amazon account. If you don’t have an Amazon account,click Create a new Amazon account,and follow the instructions.
  • After signing in,the Alexa on Windows home screen displays and the app is ready. Ask questions with voice commands just like with an Amazon Echo device.
  • To manage Alexa features and settings,click the top left menu icon on the Alexa home screen.
