Here are four tips to help you find the right person to illustrate your book.

  1. Know what you are looking for. It’s best to look for an illustrator when your story is completed.
  2. Do a thorough search. There are many internet directories of children’s book illustrators.
  3. Make sure you have a written contract.

How much royalties do illustrators get?

If you’re the author and illustrator, you’ll get to keep the full royalty rate, which would be similar to above: around 10\% with possible benchmarks that will raise it to around 15\%. If you’re only the illustrator, the royalties will be split equally between you and the author.

Whereas someone just starting out, would charge significantly less. Personally, depending on what you wanted per page I would charge 30-50 dollars/page.
