No fabric items like bedding, towels, or clothes should be donated unless they have been cleaned. Dry clean or wash everything and treat any stains before donating. Since most charities do not have large storage areas, donate clothing that can be distributed during that season.
Can I donate musty clothes?
Yes. In fact, you can donate your old clothes. You can donate textiles of any brand and in any condition, and they’ll handle the rest. Depending on their condition, your clothes will be recycled as cleaning cloths or insulation in their next life.
Can I donate clothes with armpit stains?
Yes, if you are donating it to a place that can recycle textiles, or the stain in small and insignificant, and it’s not a fresh stain. For example, Goodwill recycles most of its clothing donations.
Does Goodwill wash donated clothes before selling?
Goodwill does not prepare items before they sell them. They don’t wash clothes, wipe off dirt or dust from items, or put in missing screws or parts that some items need. If you’re going to donate any material goods, then you should clean and prepare them.
Are Salvos clothes washed?
Clothing & textiles are processed for sale. Books and games will be quarantined for 24 hours. Hard furniture will be cleaned and sanitised before sale. Fabric furniture will be cleaned and sanitised before sale.
