Do IMDb scores matter?
IMDb ratings are “accurate” in the sense that they are calculated using a consistent, unbiased formula, but we don’t claim that IMDb ratings are “accurate” in an absolute qualitative sense. We offer these ratings as a simplified way to see what other IMDb users all over the world think about titles listed on our site.
Why do IMDb ratings go down?
Over time, the movie may be seen by a wider class of audience including those watching the movie casually and not really big time fans of it. Such people might not exactly find the movie that big a deal and would hence tend to rate is far lower than the fan boys. This tends to bring down the average rating over time.
What is a good score on IMDb?
IMDB has always reported this as 6.9. So a movie with a 6.7 would be above average if you considered every film rated there.
Why do TV shows get higher ratings?
TV series have the luxury of having time to go deep into character development, complex interpersonal relationships etc. When you have a good TV series, it takes a few episodes to grow on you but once it does, you’re hooked. Therefore people tend to rate TV series higher than they would rate a movie of similar quality.
Where does IMDb get its data?
While we actively gather information from and verify items with studios and filmmakers, the bulk of our information is submitted by people in the industry and visitors like you! In addition to using as many sources as we can, our data goes through consistency checks to ensure it’s as accurate and reliable as possible.
