UK nationals do not need a visa or residency permit to live, work or study in Ireland. Within the Common Travel Area ( CTA ), British and Irish citizens can live and work freely in each other’s countries and travel freely between them. Both the UK and Irish governments are committed to protecting the CTA .

Do you need a passport to go to Northern Ireland from Ireland?

Most people need a valid passport to enter the Republic or Northern Ireland but there are some exceptions: If you’re a UK citizen, you can also use official photo identification. If you’re an EU citizen, you can also use a national identity card.

Do I need a visa for Northern Ireland?

If you want to come to Northern Ireland to visit, study or work, you may need to apply for a visa through UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI). You can simply enter the country that issued your passport or travel documents and what you want the visa for, for example work, study or visiting.
