Can IMDb ratings be trusted?

IMDb ratings are “accurate” in the sense that they are calculated using a consistent, unbiased formula, but we don’t claim that IMDb ratings are “accurate” in an absolute qualitative sense. We offer these ratings as a simplified way to see what other IMDb users all over the world think about titles listed on our site.

Where do IMDb ratings come from?

On IMDb, all films are given an overall rating out of ten. In a roundabout way, these ratings are derived from votes submitted by IMDb users, not movie critics. All registered IMDb users can submit a single rating – a number between one and ten – for any film on the website.

What is the order of ratings for movies?

Since 2014, the rating are:

  • Rated G – General Audiences. All ages admitted.
  • Rated PG – Parental Guidance Suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children.
  • Rated PG-13 – Parents Strongly Cautioned.
  • Rated R – Restricted.
  • Rated NC-17 – No one 17 and under admitted.

How do you get an IMDB rating?

To submit your rating, navigate to the title page and you’ll see the average user rating will show at the top of the screen with yellow stars. Click the star to the right and select the number of stars to save your rating! Our ratings are on a scale from 1 – 10.

Can iMDB ratings be manipulated?
