What is internal static indeterminacy?

Posted on August 14, 2022 by Author

What is internal static indeterminacy?

Internal static indeterminacy: It refers to the geometric stability of the structure. If after knowing the external reactions it is not possible to determine all internal forces/internal reactions using static equilibrium equations alone then the structure is said to be internally indeterminate.

What do you understand by the static and kinematic indeterminacy of the structures also differentiate the static and kinematic indeterminacy?

In statics, a structure is statically indeterminate (or hyperstatic) when the static equilibrium equations are insufficient for determining the internal forces and reactions on that structure. The indeterminacy of a structure that is expressed in terms of its degrees of freedom is known as the kinematic indeterminacy.

How compatibility indeterminacy condition is related to degree of static?

Structures can be classified, according to the degree of static indeterminacy, in statically determinate or statically indeterminate. In the first case they can be solved statically only with the equilibrium equations. In the second case the compatibility and the constitutive equations must be included in the analysis.

What is the physical significance of static indeterminacy?

Statical determinacy Statical indeterminacy, however, is the existence of a non-trivial (non-zero) solution to the homogeneous system of equilibrium equations. It indicates the possibility of self-stress (stress in the absence of an external load) that may be induced by mechanical or thermal action.

How do you find static indeterminacy?

Determinate Structure: if equilibrium equations are sufficient to analyse for unknown forces, Structure is said to be statically determinate. If the equilibrium equations are not sufficient to analyse the structure for the unknown forces, the structure is said to be statically indeterminate.

What do you understand by kinematic indeterminacy of a structure?

The degree of kinematic indeterminacy (DKI) is the minimum number of movements (degrees of freedom, DOF) with which the kinematic configuration of the overall structure can be defined, that is, the number of unknown independent movements of the structure.

What do you understand by degree of indeterminacy?

The degree of indeterminacy is the number of unknown reactions minus the number of equations of equilibrium. There are many methods that can be used in order to analyze this type of structure – namely the deflection method, which appears in the example that we used earlier in this lesson.

How do you find the degree of static indeterminacy?

A degree of static indeterminacy n can be calculated from a number of equilibrium equations E and a number of unknown forces N on a structure by the equation: (8.1) therefore structures can be classified as: n = 0 statically determinate structures.

How do you solve a static indeterminate problem?

To solve an indeterminate structure it is necessary to satisfy equilibrium, compatibility and force-displacement requirements of the structure….The following methods are used to solve indeterminate structures:

  1. Flexibility method.
  2. Slope deflection method.
  3. Moment distribution method.
  4. Direct stiffness method.

What do you understand by indeterminacy?

uncountable noun. The indeterminacy of something is its quality of being uncertain or vague.

What is meant by statically indeterminate structures?

Structures having more unknown forces than available equilibrium equations are called statically indeterminate. The required constraint of a structure is such a constraint which when removed changes the kinematical characteristic of the structure. It means that the entire unchangeable structure transforms into changeable.

What is the difference between internally determinate and internally indeterminate?

Generally speaking, internally determinate means that the internal forces in the members can either be calculated using statics only, and internally indeterminate means that the internal forces in the members can’t be calculated using statics only.

How do you determine whether a truss is indeterminate or stereotactic?

On the other hand, to determine whether or not the truss is statically determinate, the following rule is used: If M + R = 2 * J, the truss is internally statically determinate. However, if M + R > 2 * J, the truss is internally statically indeterminate.

Does thermal stress affect the stability of structures?

Well, the answer is yes. However, sometimes stability creates risk of more exposure to types of stress, such as thermal stress. Structures are a group of members, such as beams, columns, slabs, foundations, girders, and trusses, that work as a unit to fulfill a purpose.
