Is it necessary to attend IGNOU classes?

Please remember attendance in the practical component is mandatory. A learner must have requisite attendance in practical sessions in order to become eligible for appearing in the Term-end-Practical Examination organized for practical courses.

Is going to classes necessary?

It is absolutely vital that you attend class regularly. Missing a class should be a rare occurrence; something that happens at most once or twice a semester. If you miss class more than this, it will interfere with your learning and have a negative affect your performance and your grade.

Since IGNOU is an open University and its most of the students are working, so the classes are generally run on Saturday and Sunday along with few weekdays. If you are working and unable to attend the classes, you can contact your study centre and give them a copy of your job letter, this way you won’t have to attend the classes.

How much attendance is required for IGNOU MCA course?

Iam currently doing MCA at IGNOU and I must have 80\% attendance, since MCA has practical classes. In courses which does not have practical classes, attendence is not needed. You will only have to visit the study centre to submit assignments.

What is a counselling session in IGNOU?

The classes are called “counselling session” in IGNOU where instructor guide about doubts regarding topics from SLM’s. The so-called counselling session is arranged mostly on Saturday and Sunday at LSC. There is no compulsion on attending it.
