How long would Gollum have lived without the Ring?

Gollum had the ring in his possession for 478 years, and continued to lived for an additional 78 years until the ring’s ultimate destruction in T.A. 3019. Meaning that he was alive for close to 600 years (6 times the average lifespan of a hobbit).

What would have actually happened to Gollum?

Gollum was a Stoor Hobbit of the River-folk who lived near the Gladden Fields. Gollum finally seized the Ring from Frodo Baggins at the Cracks of Doom in Mount Doom in Mordor, but he fell into the fires of the volcano, where both he and the Ring were destroyed.

Would the Ring have been destroyed without Gollum?

Strangely enough, no. Because J.R.R. Tolkien was the author of this tale, had Sméagol/Gollum not unintentionally destroyed Sauron’s Ruling Ring, he would have destroyed it intentionally.

The ring falls into the fires of Doom by accident as Frodo and Gollum fight over it. It is NOT destroyed intentionally by Frodo or anyone.
