Are the haradrim and Easterlings the same?
The Haradrim (Southrons) came from lands to the south of Gondor and Mordor. The Easterlings came from lands to the east of Mordor and Rhovanion. In Sindarin (one of Tolkien’s Elvish languages, which was also spoken by many of the Dúnedain), forod, harad, rhûn, and númen mean north, south, east, and west respectively.
Are the Easterlings black?
Description. As of the Third Age, Easterlings were a people diverse in height and skin tone. Their skin was either sallow (a pale yellow) or olive, their eyes were dark (dark brown and black), and their straight hair was black.

Who are the Easterlings based on?
Haradrim can be seen to somewhat resemble people of the near east and north Africa. With easterlings (90\% of whom are never actually seen or spoken about) the description is fairly spartan but of those who actually appear in the narrative I’d say of anyone they most resemble the sythians or the huns.

Why did the easterlings join Sauron?
Especially the Haradrim and the Easterlings followed Sauron in the War of the Ring because they had been in his service or following his commands for a long while. They are Men corrupted by Sauron and by Morgoth before that.
Are Haradrim black Numenoreans?

Who were the Haradrim based on?
Tolkien based the Haradrim on ancient Aethiopians, people of Sub-Saharan Africa, following his philological research on the Old English word Sigelwara. He deduced that this word referred to some kind of soot-black fire demon before it was applied to the Aethiopians.
