Are Shenzhen and Shanghai the same?
Shenzhen is a much younger city, and much smaller in terms of size and population, being one third and a half that of Shanghai.
What is it like to live in Shenzhen?
Shenzhen is a very massive city. There are many people here. It is very very crowded, with millions of people going to specific isolated areas, such as laojie, luohu, huaqiangbei and more. It has many attractions that make it very enjoyable like Window of the World, OCT, Splendid China, and many more.
What is the difference between Beijing and Shanghai?
Beijing is the political and cultural center of China. And Beijing is also the capital of China, while Shanghai is the business center of China. Beijing is famous for its rich historical sites, such as Forbidden City, Great Wall while Shanghai is well known for its modern cityscapes and skyscraper night views.
Is it cheaper to live in Shenzhen than Shanghai?
Shenzhen is cheaper than Shanghai. Costs have been skyrocketing across China, with rents doubling or tripling in the years I’ve been here. Yet I think for the same living standard and central location in Shenzhen, you’d pay much more in Shanghai. Of course this main cost is rent.
Should I go to Shanghai or Shenzhen for market entry?
Both cities have pretty hot summers, well Shenzhen has EXTREMELY hot summers. And humid, you’ll be sweating and maybe changing your outfit once or twice a day. So not sure which weather you prefer, some like the different seasons and then others like the warmer climate. Shanghai is the place to be if you want to do China market entry.
Should I go to Shenzhen University or Shanghai University for Chinese?
You will most likely enroll at Shenzhen University, but I’d recommend going up north. So Shanghai could be a good place, there are tons of chinese learning centers there. Another side note, for whatever reason, Chinese in Shenzhen have been shy to try to speak Chinese to me.
What do people think about Shanghai?
People know it is a hustle and bustle city with tons of opportunities. Maybe this is something you could care less about – but Shanghai definitely has more “sexy appeal”. When telling people where you live and work, they seem to show more awe and interest. If you’re doing fashion or design, you deal with Shanghai.
